Celebrate the Beauty of Wood

Welcome. I'm Paul DeLaVergne; I have been woodworking since 1974. I started by working in a boat-building shop in San Pedro, California. Black Walnut bench (Detail) While there,I got interested in creating furniture and started using the shop after hours to build my own designs. I am self-taught and have learned by doing, over the years. My work is influenced by the work of the Shakers, George Nakashima, and James Krenov. I work in American hardwoods that I choose for interesting figure and beauty. I specialize in pieces that are made from wood that I have had milled from the log,to my specifications. This allows me to show off unusual grain and character. I believe that wood is one of the few renewable resources that we have and if managed well, forestry can give us wood for future generations. My work strives to bring about an appreciation of Nature in the buyer. I also do Commercial work, such as store interiors and custom bars.

My studio is located in the Village of Yellow Springs, Ohio. With a population of about 3800 people, it continues to thrive as a town steeped in Music, Art & Nature. We have the 1000 acre Glen Helen Nature Preserve, John Bryan State Park, Clifton Gorge Nature Preserve, and the Ohio Bike Corridor that goes right through town. The Yellow Spring in Glen HelenThe Y.S. Kids Playhouse puts on many fine performances with our talented local children. Yellow Springs is a great place to make a weekend visit. Come and stay in the Arthur Morgan House Bed & Breakfast, eat at The Winds, one of Ohio's finest restaurants, or just stroll about town and enjoy our slow-paced lifestyle. Peach's Grill, is the home of great music events on the weekends as well as 25 fine ales & beers on tap in their restaurant. Check out current events at The Y.S. Chamber of Commerce). A tour of my Studio/Showroom is available with advance notice. Contact me for an appointment. Please feel free to contact me about custom work, and enjoy my site. I look forward to hearing from you. - Paul DeLaVergne
